Last night I went to the Film Forum here in NYC to see Dreams With Sharp Teeth, a documentary on the ferociously outspoken sci-fi author Harlan Ellison. Not only is it one of the funniest films I've seen in years (and when I say funny, I mean moments of laugh-out-loud, side-splitting humor) but it's also a terrific, insightful look into the mind of a mad artist, a man with a limitless imagination and a wild temper. He has no patience for bullshit, not in his work and not in his personal life. The stories told by he and the people interviewed (Robin Williams, Neil Gaiman, Josh Olson, Dan Simmons, etc) about his rise to fame are fascinating and extraordinary, and Ellison's rants and raves about art itself are as inspiring as they are hilarious. The trailer gives you a taste of it.
