The Israeli Dancer
by Ari
We've shot over 26 hours of interviews and a few dance sequences over the last couple months. Processing the footage has proven to be far more time-consuming and frustrating than expected (the gh1 has a complex workflow if you're editing on a Macbook), but the image looks decent for a dslr once everything is converted to the proper frame-rate. It's not as sharp as the Canon 7d, but for a documentary it's an entirely different approach and still good quality. Most of the interviews have been prepared for the first stages of editing, which will be another co-editing collaboration between myself and editor Yuki Aizawa, who I worked with on the previous film. Organizing the photos and stock footage has been one of the most enjoyable steps of the production so far, and I almost feel like I can build an entire film around that material alone. The 8mm and 16mm footage from the '50s and '60s is fascinating to watch, and I'm planning to incorporate as much of it as I can into the final cut of the film. I'm fairly pleased with the progress thus far, and very much looking forward to sharing some footage once it's ready
