It's good to be excited about Bond again. I never expected Casino Royale to be one of the best films of 2006, but it was. I don't think anyone expected Daniel Craig to be the best Bond since Connery, but he is. I love that this franchise is alive again. Casino Royale is very much a contemporary Bond movie, but the essence of what makes the character so appealing is still there. The film was nothing like the classic '60s efforts in terms of outrageous spectacle or sharp, witty humor, but the slick new tone and less far-fetched storyline worked perfectly well for what it was. And Bond was Bond again. Craig was cool, sophisticated, elegant, dangerous. It worked. Now comes Quantum of Solace, the first time a Bond film is a direct sequel to the previous story. It's a good idea, and I can't wait to see how it turns out.
