I recently saw Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas' latest film Silent Light at the local art center in Minneapolis. This film affected me in many ways, far and away the best thing I've seen this year. Film Comment listed it as the number 1 unreleased film of 2007. I now see why. It's amazing. Visual poetry. I wrote a long-winded piece about Reygadas and all his works (Silent Light is his third feature) that was recently published in The Rake Magazine (an online mag in Minneapolis). Check it out, let me know what you guys think. And by all means, go see Silent Light if it shows up in your city, you will not be dissapointed. You can find his two previous full-length films, Japon and Battle in Heaven, on Netflix. Also highly recommended.
