After the way things have gone down this month, and based on a few questionable opinions I've read from various online sources regarding some prestigious upcoming releases, I'd like to post a quote I noticed on HollywoodElsewhere from Steven Soderbergh.

I think it's a quote that perfectly sums up the way I feel about the critical establishment at the moment, and after the painful reaction to a certain escapist fantasy on its way OUT of theaters right now (don't expect me to shut up about this any time soon) and the very mixed/negative reaction to Charlie Kaufman's directorial debut Synecdoche, NY (wildly ambitious and brilliant screenplay) and Soderbergh's own 4 hour Che epic from Cannes (which may have a chance of stealing the Palme d'Or because of Sean Penn), I think it's something to consider.

"I find it hilarious that people always complain about movies being the same, and then when something different comes along -- a film that deals the cards in a different way -- they say why isn't it more conventional?"
