So what's the deal with Steven Spielberg? A few days ago Variety reported that the great director was considering a remake of Akira Kurosawa's Ikiru (pointless), but today comes the announcement that Spielberg wants to remake Oldboy with Will Smith.

......okay?

Can someone please explain this to me? Has there ever been a more baffling match of director and material? It's like expecting Takashi Miike to remake ET. Just.......no.
